For those who don't know the history of the Common Ridings or Riding of the Marches,They can be traced back to the 13th or 14th century when the town
folk of the various Border towns would ride the bounder'ies or "Marches" to protect their common land. They can range from a couple of hours to 4 hour rides through beautiful countryside and are not for novice riders. But they are great fun and a good day out even after the riding is over.
